About the South African Police Service website

Introduction

The SAPS website was established in 1997. In line with the Batho Pele (‘People First’) initiative of the South African government, the website aims at optimal service delivery by informing the communities it serves on all aspects of policing in the country.

The website has developed over the years, and will continue to develop to increasingly become more user-friendly. It is currently maintained by the Research, Marketing and Planning Section, Communication and Liaison Division of the SAPS.

In 2003/2004 a research project titled Developing the SAPS website for optimal service delivery was undertaken to assess the SAPS website, compared with websites of several other police agencies. Recommendations were also made to bring about greater service delivery. The project was undertaken by a SAPS members in fulfilment of a Master's degree in Information Science.
