 26 June 2012

This morning Tuesday 26 June 2012 , at about t 11:50, two(2) unknown males, one of whom was armed with a knife and the other a possible firearm, entered Java Salon on the Main Road in Mowbray under the pretexts of being clients.  Once inside the salon they held up the Salon Manager and demanded that she hand over cash to them.  The suspects removed an undisclosed amount of cash and two cellular phones before fleeing from the scene in a Toyota Tazz which was parked nearby.  Police were immediately contacted and a chase then ensued.

During the chase the suspects collided into a private vehicle in Woodstock.  They then alighted from the vehicle and started to flee in different directions. With the assistance of Security Officers of Groote Schuur CIDS, police managed to apprehend both suspects.  The suspect’s vehicle was searched and police recovered the stolen cash and cellular phones.  No weapons were found in possession of the suspects.  It’s believed that the weapons were discarded whist they were fleeing on foot from the police.

The arrested suspects aged between 25 and 30 will make a court appearance at the  Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 28 June 2012 on charges of business robbery

In pursuit of the fleeing suspects two police vehicles from SAPS Mowbray SAPS were involved in a collision which resulted in four members being injured.  The injured members have since been taken to hospital where their condition has been described as stable.
