MORTUARY OFFICIAL

The official must be able to register a docket from police stations. The official picks up unknown corpses from hospitals and from any place a corps could possibly be found (open and closed places). He/she administer the record of the mortuary on a daily basis. The official opens and closes the corpses during the corps identification process. He/she convey the corpses to and from the pans (drawers) during the execution of his/her duties. The official performs an autopsy with the pathologist (doctor). The official also remove samples for analysis, after instructions from the pathologist.

What are the minimum requirements to become a Mortuary Official.

The person must have passed grade 12 certificate. The police experience is essential in this field. He/she must be prepared to work shifts and long hours. He/she must have stable emotions in dealing with corpses in general. The person must have a valid drivers licence.

Training:

Each member of the mortuary shall be given the opportunity to undergo training to empower/equip himself/herself.

Where can you be stationed?

There are various government mortuary stations around the Republic of South Africa where a person can be placed.
