Career Quest
The Chef is primarily responsible for the planning and
preparation of food. A Chef must be able to plan menus, arrange
and garnish the food, supervise other kitchen staff, maintain
cleanliness and keep records of supplies.
What are the minimum requirements to
become a Chef?
Senior Certificate. Recommended subjects are Home Economics
and Hotel keeping and Catering, but it is not compulsory.
Training:
Mostly in-service training by supervisors in the South
African Police Service. Further training includes a relevant
diploma eg. Hotel Keeping and Catering applicable to this
working environment.
Where can you be stationed?
National, Provincial or Area level where above services are
needed in the South African Police Service. In the South African
Police Service chefs usually work in messes at South African
Police Service training institutions.
