IDENTIFICATION INVESTIGATORS |
Vehicle Crime Identification Investigators are responsible
for identifying vehicles and to conduct investigations to
determine who, if any one may lawfully possess a specific
vehicle. They do examination of vehicles, performing the
electro-acid etching process. They facilitate forensic and/or
metallurgic investigations of vehicles and conduct enquiries on
the relevant vehicle computer system. Deciphering vehicles
registration documents in order to follow up the history of the
vehicles registration, issuing South African Police Service
Vehicle Identification Numbers and assisting local detective
units with Interpols’ vehicle related enquiries are also part of
their duties.
What are the minimum requirements to
become a Vehicle Crime Identification Investigator?
The individual must be in a possession of a valid drivers
licence (Code 08 or higher), have at least one year functional
experience in a detective environment, completed a basic
detective course. Be willing to undergo a polygraph,
psychometric test and security clearance vetting, whenever
required.
Training:
Individuals undergo training in the Vehicle Crime
Investigators’ Course and Vehicle Safeguarding Unit Training
Programme.
Where can you be stationed?
Vehicle Crime Identification Investigators are stationed at
Vehicle Safeguarding Units of Vehicle Identification Sections in
the South African Police Service countrywide.
