Record Tracing officials are responsible for the
classification and searching of all fingerprints on the main
frame of the South African Police Service. They physically
search all fingerprints through the main files with the aim of
seeking to identify previous convictions and filing of
fingerprints.
What are the minimum requirements to
become a Record Tracing Official?
The individual must have a Grade 12 Certificate or an
equivalent qualification, be computer literate and familiar with
the Criminal Administration System, circulation system and other
mainframe systems in use by the South African Police. The Record
Tracing Official should be fluent in at least two official
languages, of which one must be English.
Training:
Individuals undergo In- service training.
Where can you be stationed?
Record tracing officials are stationed at Criminal Record
Centres of the South African Police Service countrywide.
