Fingerprint technicians are responsible for investigating
crime scenes, objects for fingerprints and exhibits (samples).
They collect, preserve and process fingerprints and exhibits.
They register and process cases on the Criminal Administration
System, system classification, searching and filing of
fingerprints. They prepare documents for evidential purposes and
giving of evidence.
What are the minimum requirements to
become a Fingerprint Technician?
Individuals must have a Senior Certificate (Grade 12), should
have completed Basic Police Training and be able to read and
speak at least 2 official languages of which one must be
English.
Training:
Individuals undergo training in Scene Proficiency
Fingerprints and other Advanced Training courses.
Where can you be stationed?
Fingerprint Technicians are stationed at Criminal record
Centres of the South African Police Service: Detective Services.
