The Intelligence Official: Security Advisor acts as an aid to
the Commander: Risk Management. The Intelligence Official
liaises with the intelligence community eg. South African
National Defence Force regarding threats against the lives of
Very Important Persons (VIPs’). He/she liaises with Interpol and
a guest country when the president, deputy president or
ministers plan to undertake foreign visits to do planning of
personnel and protection detail. He/ she communicates
intelligence regarding threat analysis to Units of the
Protection and Security Services. Other functions include
research on risk studies, establishment and maintenance of a
database of threats against VIP’s and setting standards for
Protection and Security Services.
What are the minimum requirements to
become a Intelligence Official?
You must have completed basic police training, one year
experience as a close protector and one year experience as a
static protector.
Training:
In-service training will be provided eg. Advanced
VIP-Protection and Protective Intelligence Courses.
Where can you be stationed?
Intelligence Officials/ officers can be stationed at
Intelligence Liaison and VIP-Protection Service in the South
African Police Service.
