A Journalist in the South African Police Service gathers
information and write articles and columns for the South African
Police Service Journal, a policing magazine. The planning of
these articles is in accordance with the strategic plan of the
South African Police Service and assignments from the editors.
He/she makes appointments with relevant persons according to
tasks, does research and co-ordinates visual material required
for the final article. The Journalist also liaises with internal
and external photographers and graphic artists. He/she attends
media conferences and other social events as a representative of
the South African Police Service magazine and supports and
promotes effective and efficient internal communication through
the South African Police Service Journal. The Journalist in the
South African Police Service also does the coordination of the
lay-out of the articles with the production team.
What are the minimum requirements to
become a Journalist?
To become a Journalist in the South African Police Service
you must be in possession of a relevant tertiary qualification
or equivalent in Journalism. You must be in possession of a
light vehicle drivers licence and must be prepared to travel.
You also need to be fluent in English.
Training:
In-service training will be provided in the South African
Police Service.
Where can you be stationed?
Journalists in the South African Police Service can be
stationed at Communication and Liaison Services.
