SCIENTIFIC ANALYST
(Trace Analysis)

Scientific Analyst (Trace Analysis) perform forensic investigations of exhibits in criminal cases. This includes: doing scientific analysis, interpreting the results of scientific analyses, issuing reports, performing methods validation, giving experts testimony in a court of law, doing research and attendance of crime scenes.

What are the minimum requirements to become a Scientific Analyst (Trace Analysis)?

The prospective incumbent must be in possession of a relevant degree or diploma in one or more of the following fields:
Forensic/Science/ Criminalistics, Analytical chemistry, electron microscopy, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physics, botany, zoology, soil science or geology/geochemistry/ mineralogy.

Training:

The following training is provided: The Orientation Programme of the Forensic Science Laboratory and Professional training in forensic investigation. Further training includes specialized training in the relevant field of forensic science.

Where can you be stationed?

The Scientific Analyst (Trace Analyst) can be station at the South African Police Service Forensic Science Laboratory.
