Crime Intelligence
The Crime Intelligence Division of the SAPS is
responsible for managing information gathering, centralised and
integrated intelligence management, coordination and analysis.
They also provide a technical intelligence support service to
the operational components of Crime Intelligence and where
necessary, to other operational divisions of the SAPS.
Communication interception officials of the division
use communication technology to -
- carry out surveillance as directed by the court;
- carry out covert interceptions;
- monitor communication-generated information; and
- link up with telecommunication networks and service
provider coordinators.
The interception/monitoring pf communications is just one of
many resources utilised during operational activities.
Requirements to be appointed as a communication interception
official
- A Senior Certificate (Grade 12) with Mathematics and
Science as subjects
- Relevant technical or electronic qualifications in the
field of communications and computer technology.
