Prevent becoming a victim of Date Rape
- Date rape is the sexual abuse of one partner by the other
in a dating relationship
- Do not allow another person to touch you in a way that
makes you feel uncomfortable - by addressing the person firmly
make it clear that the behaviour is unacceptable
- Do not leave a social event with someone you have just met
or don't know
- You have the right to say NO!
- REMEMBER: Most women are raped by someone they know.
What to do if someone you know rapes you:
- Find a safe place, immediately.
- Inform the first person that you trust about the incident.
- Go to the nearest police station to lay a charge. Make
sure that you report the rape within 72 hours. It is advisable
to take a friend or family member with you.
- If you were drunk at the time of the rape, do not hesitate
in reporting the matter, being drunk is not a crime, rape is.
- Although you may not want to lay a charge, make sure you
receive the morning-after pill to prevent pregnancy,
anti-retroviral treat to prevent HIV infection and antibiotics
to prevent contracting an STD. All these treatments must be
received from the doctor within 72 hours.
- Go for counselling.
