Breeding and caring for police dogs is a science on its own. Breeding police dogs requires personnel equipped with a thorough knowledge in the field of genetics and ethology (animal behaviour). It requires thorough genetic and ethological qualifications and dedication to carry out this function. A person only begins to understand the basics of breeding, and the interaction of genetics and environmental influences on dog behaviour, after five years’ service at the Dog Breeding Centre.
