SAPS Dog School

Some interesting facts

• The SAPS has its own animal hospital which is fully equipped with an operating theatre, X-ray room, pharmacy, basic laboratory and even its own ICU service to deal with any animal emergency.
   
• The SAPS Dog School prides itself with the Roodeplaat Breeding Centre responsible for the breeding and socialization of dogs.  Formal training of dogs forms part of the curriculum of the specialized fields of expertise.
   
• Donations are also given by the public for breeding and training purposes.
   
• Tracker and tactical training courses are presented to dog handlers and their dogs.
   
• Purposeful research and planning are done to ensure that dog handlers are utilized for crime problems nationally.
   
• The dog displays tours the country on request by schools and institutions to showcase the functions of the various dog breeds.
