Endangered Species
National and International ForumsProvincial Environment Crime Task Teams (ECTs), held quarterly in the
respective provinces. This forum comprises representatives of the
SAPS, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Department of
Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT), South African National Parks
(SANPARKS) and other relevant stakeholders.The annual conference of
the South African Museum Association (SAMA), which provides a platform
for the exchange of information between the SAPS, the Department of
Art and Culture (DAC), national and provincial museums and art
galleries, and other relevant stakeholders.
The Standing Committee of the Convention for the International
Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora (CITES) held
annually in Geneva, Switzerland. The Endangered Species Desk
represents law enforcement of the South African delegation consisting
of representatives of DEAT and the Department of Foreign Affairs. The
Minister of Environment Affairs and Tourism nominates the delegates
who are to attend.
Symposiums held annually, locally and abroad, dealing with the law
enforcement of the illicit trade in works of art, heritage objects and
antiques.
Meetings of the Rhino and Elephant Security Group (RESG)
The Interpol Sub-Group on Wildlife Meetings held annually in one of
the SADC countries.
The annual conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM)
where the Endangered Species Desk represents law enforcement in South
Africa (if invited).
Any other conference or meeting to which the Endangered Species
Desk is invited, in addition to its core responsibilities and
functions.
