Endangered Species

Reporting Crime

Heritage Crime

  • Stolen objects are reported at local police stations.
  • Ask for CAS No and inform provincial coordinator of the incident;
  • Provide provincial coordinator with the CAS No.
  • Provincial coordinator will inform the Endangered Species Desk.
  • The applicable Crigen Art form should be completed by the reporting person from the museum or gallery and forwarded to the Endangered Species Desk.
  • Desk captures the information and forwards it to Interpol for circulation.

Endangered Species crimes / offences

  • Contact provincial coordinator / local nature conservation authorities.
  • Inform them of event.
  • If your personal items are involved, request a copy of the following:
  • Elephant ivory
  • ECO message in the event of any endangered species (fauna and flora) related crimes.
  • Note: In terms of section 16 of the SAPS Act, the Organised Crime offices only deal with Endangered Species as listed under appendices I, II and III of the convention for the international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora, as amended from time to time.
  • For all other species - kindly contact the local nature conservation office.
