Introduction
The Government of
South Africa is responsible for the provision of Safety and
Security of all citizens and of visitors to the Republic of
South Africa. In order to achieve this , and to contribute to a
safe and secure environment, Government transfers specific
functions and powers to services such as the South African
Police Service [SAPS].
The Constitution of
the Republic of South Africa ,1996 [Act No 8 of 1996], the South
African Police Service Act [Act 68 of 1995], numerous other
Acts, National Orders and relevant Cabinet Memorandums ensure
that these powers, functions, and duties are executed by the
SAPS in an efficient manner.
In the Division:
Protection and Security Services effort to provide policing and
security to the population of the Republic of South Africa, we
strive to develop a comprehensive set of policing and security
strategies at our ports, strategic installations, public
transport systems and around individuals whose personal
protection is in the public’s interest.
