The 5fm/SAPS Teddy Bear Patrol
Over the past six years the Communication Service, Office of
the National Commissioner, has run an annual community project
in partnership with the SABC radio station 5fm.
The goals of the project are to lend communication support to
the SAPS priority "Crimes against Women and Children", to
constructively bring the youth of SA in contact with the SAPS,
to assist under-privileged children who are often victims of or
witnesses to crime and to proactively project a positive image
of the SAPS to all communities.
Each year we have held this project with great success,
touching thousands of children's lives and generating a huge
amount of positive publicity for the SAPS on radio, television
(SABC2) and in the print media. Each year we have a different
theme from collecting teddy bears to be handed out to children
affected by crime, to playing soccer with youths throughout the
country or taking a group of children on an outing.
We have various sponsors which support our efforts and have
built up a good relationship between 5fm and the SAPS.
