HM Hlela
Commissioner Hamilton Hlela was born and raised in Humansdorp
in the Eastern Cape. He joined the police in the Ciskei in 1981
and became a commissioned officer in 1985. He has performed
duties over a wide field of policing including the general
detective branch, the Murder and Robbery Unit, the Human
Resources. He was the Commissioner of the former Ciskeian Police
before it was amalgamated into the South African Police Service
in 1995.
From 1995 to 1999 Commissioner Hlela was the Deputy
Provincial Commissioner in Gauteng and in 1999 he was the
Divisional Commissioner of Logistics where he earned the respect
and loyalty of all who served under him.
On 24 August 2002 he was appointed as Deputy National
Commissioner responsible for the management of matters relating
to Logistics, National Evaluation Services and Protection and
Security Services.
Commissioner Hlela is married and has six children, four
daughters and two sons.
He has obtained Bachelor’s and Honour’s degrees from the
University of Fort Hare.
