16. Proactive Measures taken in an Area

16.1 Proactive measures taken regionally consist of the following:

16.1.1 The members of the groups or cells in the area must carry out regular patrols. 

16.1.2 Cell members must man observation posts.

16.1.3 Farmers must keep emergency numbers and frequencies by telephones and citizen band radios.

16.1.4 Contingency plans must be in place and should be practised regularly. 

16.1.5 Each and every farm / household must know what their tasks and responsibilities are in a crisis.

16.1.6 Regular feedback must be given to the SAPS and the Commando to plan counter-actions to be taken.

16.1.7 It is important to identify access and escape routes for vehicles and persons on foot.

16.1.8 Every cell member must be in possession of the layout of the homesteads of the other cell members.

16.1.9 Before going away, inform the members of the community and the cell management of your plans. 

16.1.10 A list of emergency resources must be available.

16.1.11 Find out what strangers are doing in the area. 

16.1.12 Be aware of people’s movement in the area, whether by road or on foot.

16.1.13 The SAPS, the SANDF and the Commando must hold regular roadblocks.
