5 Years For Drug Dealing Accused

NORTHERN CAPE : Upington District Court sentenced Xavier Roelf (26) and Joslin Visser (27) on drug dealing charges. Sentencing took place on Monday, 8 April 2024. The sentence comes after the accused were convicted on 21 March 2024 following a lengthy trial. Roelf and Visser were out on bail of R2000 each during the trial. Several accused pleaded guilty during the trial, while some were convicted as part of the Project Dumper investigation. The duo were arrested during a project dumper takedown.
During October 2023, the Hawks Priority Crime Specialized Investigation and National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit successfully applied for a forfeiture order on a vehicle worth R43 380.65. The vehicle was seized as it was used as an instrumentality in the offence.
The court sentenced accused number one Xavier Roelf to five (5) years direct imprisonment of which two (2) years were suspended for five (5) years with conditions. He will be incarcerated for 3 years.
Accused number two, Joslin Visser was sentenced to three (3) years of correctional supervision with conditions. Both accused were declared unfit to possess a firearm and their drugs were forfeited to the State.
