KWAZULU-NATAL: On Friday, 01 November 2024, the Hawks members from Durban Serious Commercial Crime Investigation served Gregory Horwitz (50) with a summons to appear in court on 3537 counts of contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act.
It is alleged that on 6 October 2022, border police examined a container suspected to contain counterfeit goods. After taking samples, the brand holders confirmed that the goods were indeed counterfeit. The seized goods which included counterfeit sneakers and slippers valued at an estimated R1 024 200 00, were confiscated for further investigation.
A case of contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act was registered at Maydon Wharf police station and subsequently assigned to the Hawks for further exploration. On Friday 01 November 2024. Horwitz was served with a summons and charged with contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act.
He made a brief appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on the same day. The matter was remanded to 09 December 2024.
