KING WILLIAM’S TOWN – The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has strongly condemned the attack of SAPS Nieu-Bethesda members while executing their duties.  “We outright condemn the attack in the strongest way and we will not allow callous criminals to attack our members while executing their duties to protect the citizens of this province,” said Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga early today.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, 26 February 2020 at about 11:00 members from Nieu-Bethesda near Graaff Reinet followed up information on a reported housebreaking and theft in their policing area. The information led them to a residence of a 21-year-old suspect . When the members approached the suspect, he became aggressive and took out a knife from his pocket and stabbed a Constable in the upper body.
The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Graaff Reinet Magistrates' Court on Friday, 28 February 2020 on charges of assaulting a police official, housebreaking and theft.
