Efforts to remove illegal firearms continuously result in successful confiscations in the Nyanga Cluster.
Two firearms were recovered and two suspects arrested for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunitions on Saturday and this morning in the Elsies River policing precinct.
One firearm, a brown Norrinco Star with no serial number and six live rounds were recovered this morning in Milner Court in 14th Avenue, in Leonsdale. Members acted on a tip off and recovered the firearm in possession of a 26-year-old suspect.
The second firearm , a prohibited firearm and a 9mm live round were recovered in possession of a 22-year-old suspect in Melton Road in Clarke Estate, Elsies River. The members who were on patrol in the area heard gun shots and on investigation saw a suspect carrying a firearm running away. Members chased the suspect and arrested him for the possession of an illegal firearm.
The firearm was reported stolen from SAPS Nyanga in 2007.
The suspects are due to appear in court next week for the possession of prohibited firearms and illegal ammunition.
