FIREARM RECOVERED IN ELSIES RIVER
2020/08/21      |  Written By:  Lieutenant Colonel J Swartbooi   |   Province:  Western Cape

ELSIES RIVER: In the early hours of this morning, Friday 21 August 2020, SAPS members attached to Elsies River made their presence felt in the policing precinct. Due to the ongoing gang violence in the area, the focus was on combatting the violence with high density patrols.

Whilst performing their duties at around 02:00, they noticed a suspicious person in Forest Drive. When SAPS members approached the person, with the intention to search, the suspect fled the scene with highly trained SAPS members in pursuit. The suspect then dropped an object whilst running away and managed to escape a lawful arrest. One 9 mm pistol, loaded with one magazine filled with nine live rounds of ammunition was confiscated.

The Acting Station Commander Col Frederick Bosman commended the members for their dedication to still confiscate firearms under difficult situations. The community at large is always requested to share information of illegal activities with Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
