SIMUNYE MAN GET 15 YEARS BEHIND BARS FOR CABLE THEFT: BEKKERSDAL

A 23-year-old Kenneth Davies of 310 khatelelo Street in Simunye near Westonaria received a shock of his life when he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years for Theft and damage of essential infrastructure and five years which was said concurrently for Attempted Theft by the Westonaria Magistrates' Court on the 17th of August 2020.

The accused was allegedly on the 6th of August 2019 at about 02:40am seen on the monitoring cctv busy cutting the metro rail cable near the cooke 3 mine. He was confronted by the mine securities and arrested him while in possession of the cable. He was charged with three counts and sentenced for all. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Branch Commander Lt Colonel Boitumelo Sigwili commended the member Detecive Dzunani Mashele for the professionalism she displayed when investigating this kind of cases. She further thanked the prosecution team for finalizing the case. Cable theft affect the economy of our country severely. “This is a good sentence and I hope this will be a deterrent to would-be cable thieves and lessen the number of reported cases she added”
