SUSPECT APPEARS IN COURT FOR APPROXIMATELY R7.5 MILLION ALLEGED FRAUD: JOHANNESBURG

GAUTENG – The Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court has granted bail to alleged fraudster, Deon Pillay (40) on charges of fraud at Palm Ridge in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday.

It is alleged that Esizwe Technology CC, Managing Director, Pillay allegedly created false product invoice of approximately R7.5 million to City of Johannesburg (CoJ) for procurement and purchasing of office desktop computers in February 2018.

Further investigation revealed that Pillay kept the procured desktop computers in his possession and did not deliver as per invoice. Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit in Johannesburg arrested Pilllay at his residence in Bassonia on Monday afternoon regarding the fraud and theft allegations.

Pillay was granted R50 000 bail and the case is postponed to 05 October 2020 pending further investigation.
