SAPS TONGAAT ARRESTED COPPER CABLE THEFT SUSPEC AT FAIRBREEZE TONGAAT

TONGAAT: 28 August 2020 – On Thursday 2020-08-27 at about 13:00, South African Police (SAPS) Tongaat Officers Captain JV Naidoo, Captain NG Mfeka, Warrant Officer Manisha Maharj-Marie, and five Transnet Security Guards arrested two males aged 29 and 48 years old for Possession of Presumably Stolen Property in one of the Scrapyards at Faibreeze area.

It is alleged that SAPS Tongaat Officers and Transnet Security Guards were conducting scrapyard inspections when they received information that there were males who were in possession of stolen copper cables in one of the scrapyards at Fairbreeze. Upon arrival at the scrapyard two males were found in possession of stolen property. They were both interviewed and they failed to give a satisfactory answer to the police.

One of the Transnet Security Guards' positively identified the copper cables which were loaded in four bags of Transnet property worth approximately R16 000. The two males were then arrested for Possession of Presumably Stolen Property. They were both detained and will appear before the Verulam Magistrates' Court today on 2020-08-28.

Station Commander Colonel Santha Moodley has applauded the good work rendered by members and also appreciated good co-operation between our concerned citizens and the Police. She is also appealing to our community to say no to stolen goods and close the market of stolen goods. She is concerned that Tongaat is facing a major problem with copper Theft. This arrest will serve as a strong warning to the perpetrators of crime.
