TABLE VIEW – On 25 August 2020, Joseph Moyo was handed a fifteen year prison sentence for a robbery he'd committed in May 2019.

The incident took place at a complex in Blouberg on 16 May 2019, when an altercation between the accused and the victim took place.  The woman, who was due to celebrate her 34th birthday 15 days later, was hit over the head with a hammer and stabbed multiple times with a knife by the accused. The victim and the accused had known each other for a few months as they were employed by the same person.

After the assault, the accused took a bank card of the victim as well as his employer's car and house keys before fleeing the scene.

The woman screamed for help and neighbours alerted the Police who immediately started a search for Moyo.  He was apprehended by Police not long after, and the bloodied knife and stolen property were found in his possession.

Moyo remained at Pollsmoor Prison and the investigating officer attended every bail hearing and opposed each one successfully.  The investigating officer ensured that all the evidence was secured and presented at court.  The victim was well prepared for her appearance in court to testify against the accused.

Milnerton Cluster Commander, Major General Aneeqah Jordaan welcomed the conviction and commended the survivor's bravery after such a horrific ordeal.  The General has also expressed her satisfaction towards the investigating officer for ensuring a conviction of fifteen years.
