NYANGA: Two suspects aged 19, 42 and 47 were arrested yesterday following their involvement in alleged rape cases in the area of Nyanga.
The 19-year-old was arrested for allegedly raping a 13 year old girl on 12 Augusts in Nyanga. It was reported the girl went to a shop and never came back. A missing person report was opened but she came back home the following day citing she visited her boyfriend. Her mother opened a case of statutory rape.
The 42 and 47-year-old men were arrested for allegedly raping a woman while she was under the influence. The victim alleges that on 22 August she was drinking with four men in Newlands Squatter Camp in Nyanga when one of the men pulled down her pants and started raping her. Two other men also followed suit and when done the suspects told the victim to go home. Police are in search of the third suspect.
The trio would appear in Wynberg Magistrates' Court on Monday, 07 September 2020 on charges of rape.
Meanwhile five suspects aged between 27 and 38 are due in Athlone Magistrate Court today following their arrest on Wednesday, 02 September in possession of hijacked and stolen vehicles in Crossroads area.
The four suspects aged 27, 27, 29 and 34 were arrested after they were found in possession of a vehicle that was hijacked earlier in Gugulethu. The members were on patrol in the vicinity of Crossroads when they were informed about the vehicle parked at a residence in New rest Squatter Camp in Crossroads. Police rushed to the address and spotted the vehicle parked in the yard. Four suspects were found inside the shack and were arrested.
The other suspect, 38 was arrested in possession of a vehicle which was reported stolen last month in Goodwood. Members followed up on information and busted the suspect in Klipfontein Mission Station in Crossroads.
Members were applauded for their efforts.
