CARJACKING A PAIN IN NYANGA

NYANGA: The circumstances surrounding two isolated incidents that occurred on Monday 7 September 2020 in Nyanga, is under investigation. The investigating officer is hard at work gathering as much information as possible to ensure a watertight case to court.

Early morning, at about 05:30, a 35-year-old male was driving in his Toyota Corolla in Browns farm when he noticed that he was followed by a Toyota Avanza. The complainant alleged that the tried to deviate from his route, but was followed by the driver in the Toyota Avanza. When the complainant drove into VUKUTHU STREET, the driver of the Avanza overtook him and stopped infront, blocking the road. An unknown male approached, pointing a firearm at the victim. The complainant drove away and knocked into a strangers premises whilst the suspect then fled the scene. The complainant in the matter is a Zimbabwean foreign National. The suspect is unknown to the complainant.

At around 11:12, a 33-year-old male was driving his company vehicle, accompanied by a colleague in the area of Browns Farm in Nyanga. When they were travelling on Monwood drive, the driver noticed a vehicle blocking the way.  Three males, of which one was armed with a firearm, approached the driver, demanding him to get out of his vehicle.

The suspects fought with the driver, ultimately sustaining stab wound to his back. Six small cell phones, an undisclosed amount of cash, bags containing nine smart phones and Thirty Cell C sim Cards was taken. The complainant accompanied SAPS members in search for the vehicle when they spotted the vehicle. One male suspect(age unknown) was arrested and detained.

Nyanga SAPS is investigating cases of attempted carjacking and carjacking. The motive for the attacks is Robbery.
