This all began when the victim and his friends were confronted by a group of males about damaged windows in one of the informal settlements at Magwaveni. A quarrel ensued when the victim was trying to protect a woman from being attacked by the accused.

The victim was repeatedly stabbed by the accused and sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper body. The victim was rushed to Tongaat Clinic where he was certified dead upon arrival. A murder docket was opened and assigned to investigating officer Detective Constable Mondli Khuzwayo to conduct investigation and trace the suspect.

Investigation revealed that the accused had fled to the Eastern Cape after he stabbed the victim. Several trips were made to Eastern Cape to trace the suspect but with negative results. Detective Constable Khuzwayo relentlessly continued with investigation and never gave up. He continued to liaise with informers until Thursday 2019-01-31 when information was received that the accused was arrested for being in possession of drugs.

The detective further learned that the accused was going to appear on Friday 2019-02-01 before the Verulam Magistrate Court. The investigating officer then proceeded to Verulam Magistrates' Court and placed the accused under arrest. The accused was positively identified by an individual who had witnessed the incident.

Further evidence was gathered and brought before court and the accused pleaded not guilty. The matter was remanded several times and a trial was eventually run. Eventually the accused was found guilty and sentenced.

SAPS Tongaat Station Commander Colonel Santha Moodley praised Detective Constable Mondli Khuzwayo for his perseverance and dedication that led to the arrest and conviction of the accused. The relentless investigation by this dedicated investigating officer demonstrated what can be achieved in ensuring a successful conviction.
