AMERICAN GANG MEMBER ARRESTED IN POSSESION OF AMMUNITION: BISHOP LAVIS

BISHOP LAVIS: In the pursuit of excellence, Crime Prevention Unit members attached to Bishop Lavis SAPS, focussed on disruptive actions on Thursday 15 October 2020, targetting the strongholds of gang members in the area.

 

It is a known fact that gang members protect themselves by being in possesion of illegal firearms and ammunition. Whilst they were doing routine patrols, one of the members received a call from a reliable source from a community member, informing him that a male is standing  in front of 46b Bracken Street in Bontheuwel and that he is armed with a firearm The informer indicated that the male was armed with a firearm. As the well marked SAPS vehicle approached the area, they noticed One(1) male person that fitted the description as received. The driver stopped the vehicle next to the suspect and supprised him when they jumped of the vehicle. When the member searched the suspect, they found One(1) Live 9mm round of ammunition. One(1) Twenty Five(25) year old male, a known member of the American gang grouping that is terrorising Bonteheuwel, was arrested. Once formally charged, the suspect will make a court appearance in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate Court on Monday 19 October 2020 to answer on a charge of illegal possesion of Ammunition.

The Station Commander of Bishop Lavis SAPS , Brigadier Christopher Jones lauded the members for reacting to the information received from the community.
