 A 20-year-old Lindelane Buthelezi also known as Chillibites of Bekkersdal was on the 12th of October 2020 convicted and sentence by the Westonaria Regional court to eight years imprisonment, of which four years is suspended for five years for attempted murder and culpable homicide. He was further declared unfit to posses a firearm.

The incident happened on the 7th of December 2017 following a gang related fight. It is alleged the deceased and the victim were on the same gang when they got into a fight with other rival. The accused attempted to stab the rival and accidentally stabbed the deceased on his thigh. He was taken to a local clinic where he succumbed to his injury. The accused disappeared and was on the run until he was arrested on the 4th of August 2019 following information by Detective Sgt Thembinkosi Mapoloba and Detective Sgt Adelise Mkone. He was denied bail and has since been in custody until his sentencing.

The Branch Commander Lt Colonel Boitumelo Sigwili thanked and commended the members and prosecuting team for the sentence and for the professional manner in which the case was investigated and finalized.
