SAPS BEKKERSDAL LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR SUSPECTS FOLLOWING A SHOOTING INCIDENT

The Bekkersdal police have launched a manhunt for suspects following a shooting incident that left two victims dead and one fighting for his life. The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday the 7th of November 2020 at approximately 01:45am.

It is alleged the three friends were walking along Khomoeahlaba street next to Tambo section KKR when they were accosted by two unknown males who started firing at them without any provocations. The trio started running to different directions for their lives. Two were wounded one fatally and another one critically and was taken to hospital however the third victim could not be located. The same morning around 06:30am a dead body was recovered inside a yard in tambo section.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was the third victim who was not located during the incident that occurred in the early hours and that he was in company of the pair.

In a separate incident again in Tambo section one person was again shot and killed whiles two are fighting for their lives in hospital. It is alleged on Saturday the 7th of November 2020 around 01:50am three friends were at a birthday party in Tambo section when they decided to go buy more liquor at a nearby tavern. As they were walking along Tambo section at the UKK section, they came across two males who demanded cash and money whiles pointing them with a firearm. They started running to different directions and the suspects fired shots randomly at them fatally wounding one and two critically.

The lockdown regulations suggest that all liquor outlets should operate until midnight. The two incidents proves that there were liquor outlets still operating and due to that lives were lost however one was closed and the owner was arrested for selling liquor without license and his liquor was confiscated.

The motive for the attacks is unknown to the police. The suspects are still unknown but investigation is underway. We are making an appeal to the public to help the police with information that could lead to the arrests of these perpetrators. The acting Station Commander Lt Colonel Andile Moshani urges all tavern owners to adhere to the liquor and Lockdown regulations to avoid incidents of this nature. He strongly condemn the trigger happy suspects who were moving around firing randomly at innocent people. We will not rest until these culprits are arrested.” We will hunt you down and ensure that you face the full might of the law” said Moshani.
