COMMUNTY WARNED OF RAPES AND ROBBERIES ALONG SIMUNYE BRIDGE: BEKKERSDAL

The Bekkersdal Communication officer, Social crime in partnership with the Gender Based Brigade from the office of the Department of community safety created an awareness next to the Simunye hicking spot targeting both males and females who walks from Bekkersdal to Simunye and from Simunye to Bekkersdal on foot. The main aim was to inform the community of rapes and robberies that are reported along those road. The suspect would pounce from the open veld, cover his face with balaclava and produce a firearm in other incidents a knife and rob unsuspecting victims of their valuable and rape females before fleeing on foot.

The community was encouraged to walk in groups and avoid walking during late afternoons or at night. They were again requested to share any information with the police as the suspect is still not identified. Anyone with information is requested to contact crime stop on 08600 10111 or Bekkersdal SAPS on 011 755 8040 alternatively send anonymous information to mySAPS app that can be downloaded on any smart phone.
