On Friday 2020-11-13, South African Police Service Tongaat in conjunction with Department of Community Safety and Liaison, EThekwini Municipality, Department of Health, Department of Social Development, South African National Council on Alcoholism (SANCA), Haven of Rest, Tongaat Art and Entertainment Group, and North Coast Creatives Corner conducted a drug awareness campaign.

This campaign was attended by students from various schools and members of the community who also participated in the walk and placard demonstration against drugs. The walk started from Sizakala Centre Tongaat CBD to Tongaat Indoor Sports Centre.  The message was loud and clear, which stated, “Say No to drugs”.

On arrival at the Tongaat Indoor sports Centre, various speakers gave a talk about the dangers of drugs which are destroying our future generation. Speeches to motivate young people were delivered by three former drug addicts. Learners from various schools who were in attendance were afforded an opportunity to participate and they engaged in question and answer sessions. The response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive.

The Station Commander Colonel Santha Moodley thanks all stakeholders who worked together with SAPS Tongaat to address the devastating effects of illicit drug and alcohol abuse. The drug awareness campaign will be an on-going programme because we want to spread the message to everyone and encourage school children to speak or report anyone dealing with drugs in the community. This initiative was well received by the community.
