BEAR AND FERIE TO THE RESCUE: PORT SHEPSTONE
2020/12/18      |  Written By:  Captain Z MPINGE   |   Province:  Kwazulu-Natal

While most of us were relaxing at home on the 16 of December, SAPS Port Shepstone Search and Rescue dogs, Bear and Ferie were working. Together with their handlers and other police members, they arrived at Odeke area in Msinini where a 71 year old man was reported to have gone missing since Saturday 12 December.

The missing man was both deaf and mute and could not call out for help or hear the members is they called out to him.  In addition to these challenges, the members also faced dense bush, intense humidity and the danger of venomous snakes, but they began searching, allowing the dogs to lead the way.

Not long, the dogs were able to sniff him out and the members carried the missing man out alive. He was treated for dehydration and taken to Turton Clinic for further treatment.

Thanks to our four legged members, this search and rescue call had a happy ending.
