NELSPRUIT - A total of seven suspects are due to appear before different courts today, Monday 04 January 2021. Amongst these suspects, are three juveniles aged 17 as well as an 18 year old man. These four are expected to appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate's Court for house robberies and other related charges that were committed on 29 December 2020, at Witbank and the surrounding areas. The other three are expected to be in court at Sabie after allegedly taking part in a robbery on Saturday, 02 January 2021.

According to the information, four armed men went to a certain house on the night of the said day at Lynnville (Witbank) where they allegedly disguised themselves as police officers then robbed the victims of their belongings as well as undisclosed amount of cash.

This group of suspects then reportedly moved to another house where upon arrival, they found a male victim who was with his family at the time. It is said that these suspects were wearing police reflector jackets and posed as members of the service. They then pounced on their victims after forcing the door open to gain entry into the house where they also robbed them of their personal belongings as well as cash before fleeing the scene using a Ford Fiesta belonging to one of the suspects' father who passed away.

The suspects are alleged to have also broke into a certain house in Lynnville where the occupants were not home at the time. They then helped themselves with some items, including a cell phone and DVD's.

The police were notified about the three incidents where cases of house robberies as well as house breaking were opened respectively. A manhunt was immediately launched that led to the arrest of the four suspects.

During the arrest, the astute members confiscated the getaway vehicle. The police also recovered a toy gun, DVD's, a police reflector jacket as well as another reflector jacket belonging to a certain security company. The police believe that the items might have been stolen during the robberies.

Meanwhile, three suspects aged between 33 and 40 are expected to appear before the Sabie Magistrate's Court today, Monday 04 January 2021, following their arrest on Saturday, on allegations of a house robbery case at Sabie.

According to the reports, three armed men entered the house of a 40 year old man who was with his family and they held them at gunpoint. The trio then robbed the victims of undisclosed amount of cash as well as other personal items including a bakkie before fleeing the scene.

The police responded and the trio's trip was short-lived as they were cornered nearby where upon realising that they were surrounded, they began firing shots at the members.  Police responded where they shot and injured one suspect on the lower body. The three were then apprehended where one taken to hospital for medical treatment and is under police guard. The police managed to recover two firearms with ammunition. The firearms will be taken for ballistic tests.

The three are facing several charges, including a house robbery, attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.  Police cannot rule out possibilities of adding more charges as well as linking them to other crimes committed elsewhere.
