SUSPECT BUSTED WITH IN POSSESSION OF PROHIBTED FIREARMS IN CROSSROADS, NYANGA

Endeavours to clean the streets of Nyanga policing precinct continue to bring about notable successes.

This morning at about 08:30 a 32 year old suspect was apprehended in possession of two illegal firearms in the Crossroads area. Law Enforcement officials were on patrol in Ndima Road, Crossroads when they spotted two suspicious looking men. One suspect started running as soon as he saw the officer’s vehicle approaching.

A chase ensued from Crossroads into Marikana area where the suspect was caught armed with two 9MM pistols with each ten and eight live rounds of ammunition. Members notice a handle of the firearm which was partially visible with the suspect’s hand on it and the second one was found hidden inside the suspect’s jacket. Both firearm’s serial numbers were filed off.

The suspect who resides in Bloemkombos was arrested and detained in Nyanga.

He is due to appear in Athlone Magistrates' Court on Monday, 18 January 2020 for the possession of prohibited firearms and possession of illegal ammunition.

The members were applauded for their outstanding efforts in rooting out illegal firearms in the precinct of Nyanga.
