POLOKWANE: The joint simultaneous operations by the South African Police Service in Limpopo has nabbed two thousand five hundred and sixty (2560) suspects aged between 21 and 58 including 1224 of those who contravened the Disaster Management Act, such as failing to comply with the curfew period, failing to wear masks and offences related to liquor trade.

These operations were conducted since Saturday 16 January 2021 until this morning, on Monday 25 January 2020.

These other category of the suspects were arrested for various offences that range from murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape, armed robbery, burglary residential, possession of suspected stolen properties, burglary business, stock theft, theft of motor vehicle, drugs related crimes, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition,etc.

The operation comprised of the Crime Intelligence ,the Saps Limpopo Highway Patrol Team, the Detectives, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, K9, the Provincial and Municipal Traffic Police and the South African National Defence Force(SANDF).

Members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP), arrested thirty four (34) suspects aged between 28 and 58 in the Capricorn, Waterberg and Sekhukhune Districts. Three of the suspects in  Burgersfort, were apprehended for possession and dealing in dagga and nyaope drugs. A large amount of cash was also confiscated during the arrests.

The other suspects were apprehended in the Westenburg and Polokwane policing areas for possession of suspected stolen properties, possession of illicit cigarettes, possession of drugs, possession and selling of liquor and breaking the curfew in contravention with the Disaster Management Act. A 40-year-old man found busy selling liquor at Jane Furse, at the local hotel. They  discovered 169 bottles of assortment of beers. The suspect was arrested on the spot and the liquor was also confiscated. Police during these operations,  also spotted a suspicious white Bantam vehicle which was stopped and searched. About 11x 20 Litres of suspected stolen containers containing petrol and diesel were confiscated.

Other items confiscated during these operations include three motor vehicles, electronic appliances, cellphones, drugs, liquor and illicit cigarettes etc.

Meanwhile, in Modimolle and Burgersfort, two(02) suspects aged 27 and 58 were apprehended for possession and dealing in nyaope drugs including dagga respectively during the joint operation "Tight Grip" and confiscated cash amounting to over R2 000.

The other suspect aged 29 was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle in the City of Polokwane during Tactical intelligence driven joint operation that was conducted by Saps Bela-Bela and the Provincial Narcotine Team. Nyaope, rock, crystal meth drugs and cash amount of more than R4000 were confiscated. The recovered Hyundai was reported stolen in Pretoria of the Gauteng Province.

The Polokwane Tracing Team and the Crime Intelligence Unit also recovered laptops, cellphones and one amplifier when they successfully traced a 39-year-old suspect in Lebowakgomo for being in possession of the suspected stolen properties. The team further recovered other suspected stolen properties such as TV Plasma's and laptops during the operation conducted in Seshego.

Operation "Tshwara Tsotsi" comprised of the Capricorn District Team and the Crime Intelligence Unit nabbed one suspect in the Polokwane CBD for possession of suspected stolen laptops and cellphones believed to be stolen during a house robbery that occurred in Seshego. The 35 year old driver, failed to provide invoices and a valid reason of being in possession of the substance and he was immediately arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen fuel and the contravention of the Disaster Management Act, curfew.

Whereas, the Tuinplaas Police, Rooiberg Detectives and Themba crime prevention members have arrested eight(08) suspects linked to Tuinplaas business robbery and recovered stolen items including a truck during operation "Tight Grip".

During these operations I all the Districts, police managed to seize 19 firearms, 1401 sticks of counterfeit cigarettes, 22 dangerous weapons, 3284 grams of dagga, 340 dagga plants, 40 grams Cat drugs, 236 grams of nyaope drugs, 30 knives, 3250ml liquor, 04 stolen/robbed motor vehicles and 1593 summons for the contravention of the road Traffic Act were issued.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has appreciated the outstanding job done by all the Saps operational members across the Province. He concluded by also recognizing members of the community for providing quality and valuable information to the police which led to criminals being arrested.

The arrested suspects will appear before their local magistrate's courts soon and others have already started appearing.
