WESTERN CAPE: The vigilance and swift response from the police in Nyanga secured the arrest of five suspects after an e-hailing driver was hijacked yesterday in Mazizini Street in Browns Farm, Nyanga. The suspects ordered an e-hailing service and robbed the driver of his vehicle and two cellular telephones.

The victim managed to jump out of the vehicle and flee after he was threatened with a knife. He flagged a police patrol down and accompanied the members in search of the suspects. This search led to the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect who was pointed out by the victim. He was arrested and found in possession of the two cellular telephones robbed from the victim. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of four suspects aged between 16 and 18 this morning in Nyanga. All five suspects are expected to make their court appearance in Athlone once they have been charged. The hijacked vehicle has since been recovered.

Meanwhile in Delft a 23-year-old suspect was arrested last night for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition when members of Delft police searched a residence in Nietgewek Street Voorberg. The suspect is scheduled to make his court appearance in Bellville today.

In Fish Hoek this afternoon a 30-year-old male was arrested with an unlicensed firearm after his vehicle was searched outside the police station. Once charged, he is expected to make his court appearance in Simons Town.
