A massive manhunt was launched by Mfuleni police detectives on Thursday, 28 January 2021, for the 30 year old Mandlenkosi Mgadi alias Mandla from Wesbank, wanted in connection with two murders and an attempted murder case.

In the first incident which occurred on 01 January 2021 around 19:45 the evening,16 year old Bronwyn Ligman was shot and killed at a house in Mangold Street, Wesbank. In the second incident, 33 year old Yanga Beyi from Covid City informal settlement in Mfuleni was fatally shot and his girlfriend wounded, while watching TV inside their shack. Witness statements were collected about the murders and valuable information were received on the suspect’s whereabouts.

The 30-year-old murder suspect which belongs to the 28 K-9 gang, was considered armed and dangerous. Information concerning his whereabouts were received, which led police detectives to an address in De Aar in the Northern Cape.  A team of three police officers under the leadership of Lieutenant-Colonel Thebus left for Nonzwakazi informal settlement in De Aar, in the early hours of Saturday morning, 30 January 2021.

Around 04:00 the Sunday morning (31 January 2021), the suspect was in their custody, with the assistance of local SAPS members and members from the K-9 Dog Unit. The suspect was immediately transported to Mfuleni police station, where he appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrates' Court on Tuesday morning (02 February 2021). His next court appearance will be 09 February 2021 for a formal bail application. His bail application will be opposed by Mfuleni SAPS.
