WESTERN CAPE: Weekend operations in this province kicked off on a high note with various operational units delivering on our mission to root out crime.

In Crossroads members of the Provincial Integrated Team reacted on a tipoff and arrested a 38 year old suspect who was caught in possession of an unlicensed 9mm firearm when his residence in Inkwekwezi Street was searched. Vehicle check points and random searches also resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect who was caught in possession of an assortment of drugs, and the recovery of a Chevrolet that was hijacked in Delft earlier this month.

The same team also joint their counterparts at the Commercial Crime Unit and assisted them with a tracing operation for wanted suspects. This operation led to the arrest of two suspects, a 49-year-old male and a 44-year-old female in Goodwood who were sought for fraud and money laundering in Brackenfell. Various electronic devices and financial documents were also seized.

Members of the Flying Squad were just as busy ensuring that criminals are brought to book last night. In Manenberg they arrested six suspects aged between 26 and 36 who were apprehended in possession of two unlicensed firearms, a 9mm pistol and .22 pistol.

In Worcester Flying Squad members reacted on information and conducted a search at a residence where a 53-year-old suspect was arrested with three unlicensed firearms, a shotgun, a .303 rifle and a .22 rifle. 91 rounds of ammunition were also confiscated.

In Brackenfell members of Public Order Policing were tipped of about a drug deal at a residence in Verdot Street. They responded and arrested a 29-year-old man who is detained for the possession of mandrax.

Members of the same unit also conducted crime prevention patrols in Nyanga where a suspect was arrested in possession of a Hyundai which was reported hijacked in Milnerton during March last year.

While our operational forces are preparing themselves for more crime combatting initiatives, detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding these arrests to ensure that the suspects are brought before court on Monday.
