Five suspects are due in Athlone Magistrates' Court today following their arrest during a tracing operation conducted over the weekend.

Three suspects aged 18, 22 and 23 were involved in a hijacking committed late last month in the area of Crossroads.

Another 22-year-old was arrested on an attempted hijacking that in July last year where he and accomplices attempted to hijack a Toyota Avanza in Crossroads. The suspect and accomplice were passengers when they told the driver that they were going to take the vehicle. while arguing with the suspects the driver saw a police van approaching and he jumped out of the vehicle and flagged the van and reported the matter. The suspects fled.

The fifth suspect, 21 had allegedly kidnapped and hijacked an owner of another vehicle in May last year in Klipfontein Road in Nyanga. The suspect and his friends robbed the driver and locked him in the boot of the vehicle.

Informer networking led to the arrest of these suspects.

The members were applauded for their efforts in ensuring the culprits are brought to book.
