MUIZENERG: Muizenberg SAPS in Cape Town, Western Cape has noted an increase in the theft of motor vehicles with at least 11 vehicles reported stolen in Muizenberg area. Station Commander of Muizenberg police station, Colonel Vassie Naidoo said car thefts and thefts out of motor vehicles have gone up significantly recently. He said criminals were targeting every area. However, he said one of the hotspot areas were Kalk Bay, St James and Muizenberg and mostly occurring during the day between 08h00 and 17h00. He warned the community to be extra vigilant and urged motorists to make use of reputable tracking companies in cases where the vehicle is stolen.

Furthermore, he advised motorists to ensure that they park their vehicles in a visible area where there are guards, and avoid leaving valuable goods such as electronics, handbags and money visible in the vehicle when parked. "Ensure that your vehicle is properly locked when parked and put bags and other stuff that may attract criminals in a boot." Added Colonel Naidoo.
