FOUR BUSTED FOR THE POSSESSION OF ILLEGAL FIREARMS IN BROWNS FARM: NYANGA

Police recovered two illegal firearms and arrested four suspects this morning in the Browns Farm area.

Following up on information of suspects who were alleged to be involved in two business robbery incidents which occurred two weeks ago in Marike Centre in Browns Farm, members attached to the Browns Farm Sector Team busted four suspects this morning at about 07:00 in Ramaphosa Informal Settlement in Browns Farm(Philippi).

Police pounced on the first suspect while he was still sleeping and his arrest led to the arrest of two other suspects who were believed to be storing the firearms they utilised to commit crime. The two suspects instead took the police back and forth and while they were on their way back from another area which the suspects took them to get the firearms they met one suspect who is the one keeping the firearms. The suspect took police to a shack where the two firearms, a 9mm Norrinco Pistol and a Glock were hidden.

The firearms were confiscated and four suspects arrested and detained.

The suspects are believed to be involved in armed robberies of Uber drivers in the area. They are also suspected of being involved in a murder case which also occurred late last month in the Ramaphosa Informal Settlement.

The four suspects aged between 21 and 27 are due to appear in Athlone Magistrates' Court this week one charged for the possession of illegal firearms, armed robberies and business robberies.

The Station Commander of Nyanga, Brigadier Vuyisile Ncata hailed the team for their dedication and networking expertise which led to the arrest and recovery of the illegal firearms.
