A SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED FOR UNLICENSED FIREARM AND THE HIJACKED VEHICLE

Gauteng - Highway Patrol members and Ekurhuleni lying squad arrested one suspect for unlicensed firearm and the hijacked motor vehicle.

The incident happened in Randhurt, Alberton on 08 April 2021 at 17:20 where Flying Squad members received information while patrolling the area.  The vehicle was spotted by members who wanted to pull it aside to search but the driver could not cooperate.  Chase ensued driving on Elizabeth Eybcs Street into the residential areas.  It was hectic as two suspects in the Grey BMW (hijacked) started firing shots to the members.  A backup was called when Highway Patrol members responded on the chase and managed to arrest a 30-year-old suspect while the other suspect ran and hide in the nearby residential area.  The suspect was found in possession of unlicensed firearm (9mm pistol)

The preliminary investigation revealed that the BMW was hijacked in De Deur, North of Gauteng while the firearm’s serial number was filed off.

Investigations continue to also arrest the second suspect

A suspect will be appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrates' Court facing charges of Possession of hijacked motor vehicle and an unlicensed firearm and attempted murder.
