Khayelitsha SAPS detective has revealed on how the five teenage boys have took turns to gang-rape a 15-year-old girl on the night of the 27 March 2021 Saturday in the presence of two young girls who are now key eyewitnesses in the case.

D/Sgt Siyabulela Tsule said the incident which occurred at one of the suspects’ home at E-Section in Khayelitsha was reported by the aunts of the victim after they discovered that their niece has been gang-raped by five school-going teenage boys.

He said the incident was reported to the police on the 09 April 2021 on Friday 12 days after it had occurred.  The suspects were identified as Phawulani Honi 15, Sanele Mqhele 15, Tsepo Ngqeza 17, Lihlumo Horn 17 and Luyolo Dyasi 18.

The victim came at Tsepo’s home, who is one of the suspects and joined them whislt they were drinking alcohol together, with her two female friends who were in the company of the alleged suspects.

But the victim arrived there already drunk, she only wanted to sleep, she jumped into bed in the same backyard flat where the alleged suspects and two of her female friends were having good time smoking a hoka pipe and drinking.

Soon after she sneaked under the blankets to take a nap, Phawulani hopped into bed as well to join the victim afterwards her female friends heard moans and groans where it appeared that there was a steamy bonking activity.

Her female friends were alarmed and ordered Phawulani to stop copulating with the victim.

It appeared the protest of the of victims’ friends fell on deaf ears as all the mentioned suspects jumped into criminal act which has been started by Phawulani who is accused number one.

They were all arrested on the 12 April 2021 on Sunday and have since appeared in Khayelitsha Court on 13 April 2021 on Monday.  They have been released on bail and were currently in the care of their parents. Their next appearance will be on the 11 June 2021 at Khayelitsha Regional Court.
