CAPE TOWN: CAPE TOWN HIGH-FLYER SUSPECT SET TO RE-APPEAR IN COURT ON FRIDAY

More arrests and further charges are to be added as the Cape Town high- flyer,  Nafiz Modack and his co-accused set to appear in Cape Town Magistrates' Court on Friday 07 May 2021.

Modack, Jacques Cronje and Ricardo Morgan all have been behind bars, since they were arrested on Thursday 29 April 2021 following investigations by the Hawks’ national task tea, a special task force,  the Anti-Gang Unit, the Vehicle Safeguarding Unit and Crime Scene Management.

 The trio have made their first court appearance on Monday 03 May 2021 at Cape Town Magistrates' court where the Police Minister Gen Bheki Cele and his police entourage were present including the Acting Provincial Commissioner in Western Cape, Maj Gen Thembisile Patekile. 

They are facing charges of money laundering, intimidation, kidnapping, extortion and contravening the Electronic Communication Act.

The charge sheet also indicates that Modack and Morgan are also facing charges for conspiracy to commit murder for an attempted murder of well-known attorney William Booth.

The suspects were arrested by the Hawks team in Century City. When the team allegedly attempted to stop them, they accelerated in one of the vehicles, narrowly missing one of the officers.

A high speed chase reported to have ensued and the suspects were cornered at Sable Road and arrested.  

During the arrest two vehicles were searched and two unlicensed firearms were recovered inside a Mercedes Benz, with two occupants. An unlicensed firearm was recovered in the second vehicle a Toyota, Hilux with occupants. 

Outside the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court, Cele told journalists that he had come to lend a support and congratulate the team that was dealing with the case, and other cases including that of a cash-in-transit heist in Maccassar last week.
